Wall Image

So, I recently shot this image for wallpaper for the new Marisa Perry Atelier location…I’ve never done wallpaper before so that was challenging and stressful!  The color didn’t turn out exactly the way I wanted, but I’ve decided to (ok, fine, TRY to) stop nitpicking and be happy with the experience.  This was just a crappy shot done on my phone…

And this is the one off my camera.  They wanted a sexy pin-up look to show their rings on, and this model, Brittany, was wonderful…she’s a dancer and could hold that pose endlessly while we fussed.

Check out her instagram, lots of amazing shots there!  https://instagram.com/bricavaco/  Makeup and hair was done by Leah Stangas, another fab lady to work with….and here’s a behind the scenes look!

Music

I think that photographing people “doing their thing” is one of the best ways to capture them.  This works especially well with musicians…I like to let them play for a bit so they get to that intense place where they can forget I’m even there and just play naturally.  The cellist used to babysit for me, btw!  I grew up pretty close to Juilliard and had some pretty awesome musicians live with the family.

nef1Have you ever been photographed “doing your thing?”  If so, how was the experience for you?

Tea Party in the Attic

Ok…so, my mother-in-law gave me a tea set which included small pink cups with heart shaped saucers.  What happens when you give me a pink tea set with heart shaped saucers?  Uh…this:

I couldn’t help it.  I had these ladies over to shoot when I first moved to CT (lived there about 5 years), add the hideous couch in the background with a game of Candyland, and the rest is history…I glad they shared my twisted sense of humor.

….yeah

Dusting Off The Old Work

Oh man…I’ve been going through shoots that I did when I was starting all this, over 10 years ago…I’m not sure whether to crack up or cringe when I look at them!  Can’t believe I’m showing you guys these, but we all started somewhere, right?  These gorgeous ladies were troopers.  The technical aspects, well, yikes, but they represent the start of a huge part of me, so I love them…call me sentimental 😉

The Beginning

This is a dear friend from high school.  I was interested in photographing her before photography itself.  She hated having her picture taken…really hated it!  I thought she had the most beautiful face, so I talked her into letting me take a few picture of her, with a camera I had since 5th grade.  Guess what?  She modeled for me several times after that, and even did a little professional modeling on the side.  I love making people understand that they’re gorgeous, especially when they don’t know it…
